All-wheel drive alone no longer passes Colorado’s traction law

Since fall 2025, every car needs winter, all-weather or M+S rated tires with at least 3/16 inch of tread, or chains or an approved traction device, whatever its drivetrain. On I-70 from Dotsero to Morrison the traction law is in effect every year from September 1 to May 31.

Where this comes from. Road conditions, closures, incidents, construction, weather station readings and camera images come from CDOT’s COtrip, refreshed every few minutes. CDOT publishes it automatically and cannot guarantee it is accurate or current, and a road listed as dry may not be dry where you are. Always check before you go and drive for the conditions you see.
